'Tis the season for blogiversaries! Apparently, a ton of people start blogs in July, and I am no exception. My blog turns 1 today! To celebrate the occasion, I'm re-issuing my very first blog post and turning it into a contest for a fabulous prize!
My question to you: Are YOU a Philistine? (Or do you just like reading about one that knits?) Take this very *official* test and find out! (If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will remember my penchant for trusting the results of online quizzes). There are several choices of quizzes. Choose one of them and report your quiz results in the comments, and your name will be entered into a drawing for this fabulous prize:
A complete package of soapy goodess that includes one bath tea, one jar of bath salts, one silky hand & body cream, and one soap! What would my blogiversary be without a heap of soapy goodness? I guarantee the winner will be the best smellin' Philistine around! I'll randomly draw a name and announce the winner on Thursday, July 19. And remember, the higher your percentage score is on the quiz, the less of a Philistine you are!
And thanks to everyone who left me comments on my newly finished Sockapalooza4 socks. Believe me, I was just as surprised as you that I was able to knit TWO of the SAME socks in a row! But not to worry, the Single Sock Movement hasn't crumbled entirely. I'll have some more single socks to share with you very soon!

Funny! I remember taking these quizzes about a year ago when I found your blog. I don't remember my scores so I tried again.
I only got 67% on Famous or Unknown Artist.
WTF? I only missed one on the art/fake test? This is a fluke, and belies my true philistine nature.

i scored 33% on the "machine translation or faulkner" one. philistine or non-native speaker? does it matter?
I did the "Faulkner or Machine Translation?" quiz, and only got a 25%! I figured that'd be the one for me, seeing as I've got quite a lot of experience with Machine Translation (as part of my MA in Linguistics) and thought that I could spot the telltale weirdness it produces, but not having read much (any?) Faulkner in school, I was not prepared for how utterly nonsensical and incoherent his writing was! (and now all the English majors are going to hate me...)
I'm delurking for a chance for free stuff; I suspect that says more about me than my 75% on the art/fake quiz (after only one art history course in university, but three years of teaching art to grade 3 students!). I enjoy your blog very much! Congrats on your blogiversary!

I did the Known or Unknown Artist test for a stunningly philistine-like score of 58% - woohoo! Perhaps Adolf should have stuck with the painiting as his main gig?

Hmm. I also got a 67% on the Art/Fake test. I think I overthought the test--I was so sure that of the two similar line "paintings" (numbers 6 and 11), one had to be real and one had to be fake. Why else would they put both in? But clearly I thought the testmaker was more devious than he or she actually was, because they were both fake!

Great. I can tell abstract paintings from birdshit, but I can't differentiate between good writing and bad. At least the art scores were higher. I retained something from all those Art History classes.

Dude. That was so much fun. I took the Mozart and Salieri quiz (as a former opera singer and someone who almost wrote their dissertation on Mozart, it seemed only appropriate). I got 100%. Not sure if I should be proud or embarassed...

Well, I am a bit (okay, a lot) embarrassed, but I got a 42% on the art test. But, I am in the midst of studying for the bar exam (8 days!) so perhaps my brain is a wonky...
I need to spend some more time in museums! I took the Great Art or Not quiz, and I only got a 67%. I blame my obsession with mathematics...
I remember that post with such fondness! I took the unknown/great artist one and got a 75%. I think it's interesting that they categorize Hitler as an "unknown artist." Failed artist, yes. Evil incarnate, yes. Unknown? I know, semantics.
Oh, how I miss my Snowy Olympus. I just ran out. Is it too weird to admit that I kept the container around for huffing purposes?

I guess I'm a philistine! I took the "Dickens or Bulwer-Lytton" quiz and I only scored 50% which is piss poor considering I love Dickens. Only I just kind of happened to not have read Great Expectations or David Copperfield so I didn't recognise the quotes...which isn't exactly the point of the quiz but nevermind.
I got 93% on the "art or not" quiz and the second time I took the Dicken's Quiz (without looking at the answers) I got 100%...so...you know.
ANYway, happy blogiversary! I know it's wrong to hope for such things but I hope against all dear hopes to win your prize (unlikely as it is) because I am dying dying DYING to try your soaps and such! (Only last time I was at your shop you didn't have the soap in stock!)
