Little Miss Hilarity and Other Weekend Affairs

I went to see Little Miss Sunshine this weekend, which turned out to be a great movie. Comparisons might fairly be made to Sparkle Motion of Donnie Darko fame (and involves one of the same characters), PT Anderson's Magnolia (the satirical tone as well as the pathetic motivational speaker character), and, perhaps, a little of Weekend at Bernie's. In toto, I really liked Little Miss Sunshine a lot... and Ebert's description of it as "The funniest laugh-out-loud audience pleaser at the Sundance Film Festival" is entirely accurate... it actually *did* make me laugh out loud (which is a rare accomplishment for a movie, even comedies). Also, the acting on all fronts was great, especially Steve Carell.

I also survived my second extended bike ride yesterday. We did a 23 mile ride, which beats the first 18-miler we did last weekend. It was difficult, and I spent much of the ride squinting in front of me, trying to make out the dot that was Michael and trying to keep up, but it ended up being lots of fun. Especially since I now have a complete handle on shifting between gears to appropriately manage hills. We rode through some really nice parks on the outskirts of the city and ended up in Manayunk, where we stopped for coffee before heading back into the city. Forgot the camera *again*, but will definitely remember to bring it along on the next ride, to document the pretty nature outside the city and the sweet victory of a 2 hour bike ride!
