Fiber: Claudia Handpainted Yarns fingering weight in "Navy Olive"
Needles: size 2 DPNs

Modifications: A number of minor modifications were made to these mitts to make them more boy-friendly; most obviously, no schmancy 2-color stranding in girly pattern.
Gather 'round, dearies! I have a finished object! No single socks, here, I'm talking about an actual finished object! Fingerless mitts made especially for my boy and my photographer. Though, they're a lot like socks...
Ever since I made my fingerless mitts, M has been begging for a pair of his own. This year, he has really gotten serious into photography again, and, having acquired a new *old* camera (the trusty Rollieflex), he'd traipse all over town taking rolls and rolls of photos. Often, with chilly hands and fingertips. Fingerless mitts to the rescue!
Granted, it is summer, now (ahem, procrastinating girlfriend just got around to making them), so chilly fingertips really aren't a huge problem for him these days, but he took off today for the Dordogne to excavate and to begin dissertation research (yes, there will soon be two academics cohabitating and both writing archaeology dissertations. we'll do our best not to permanently injure one another out of sheer stress and frustration). Apparently, mornings in the French countryside tend to be quite chilly (especially for those archaeologists/researchers living in tents). Fingerless mitts ("Finally!!" he said) to the rescue!
He likes them, he likes them!
Up next: Another single sock. And I finally get around to starting my Sockapalooza pal's socks!

Well done! I really like how the colors remind me of old sepia prints and negatives.

Nice!! Love the photos - great composition. I like the mitts, too. Never quite made it around to making some fingerless ones last year (except for one pair as gifts) but I have yarn queued for about 6 pair this year. (maybe they'll be the winter equivalent of sock-knitting, I guess.)
nice mitts but also very cool that he's going off to la dordogne. my father grew up there and when i was a kid we used to go and visit my grandparents there near sarlat. i haven't been in ages but it's a gorgeous area.

Great mitts! And such cool pictures too. In our house, we have a deal. I have promised not to knit him anything, and he has promised never to drag me to a sporting event. Seems fair to me.
Great mitts, and camera! My old Rolleiflex doesn't get nearly enough use (mostly because my light meter eats through 9-volts at an alarming rate). TLR forever!
Wow. I never thought about knitting fingerless mits for all my archaeologist friends, what a great idea! At least I have 6 months until xmas so I can get a good start on them! Although not an archaeologist myself, (I get the nice warm office and periodic jaunts into the cold unheated mansion to do architecture fieldwork) where I work they dig well into November and I'm sure they would really appreciate them.

They look great! What's not to love--fingerless mitts get more wear in my house than any other FO. As an added bonus, you used Claudia's Handpainted, which looks wonderful!

Nice job! Procrastination is lovely. I've still got some slippers for the Husband that were finished Dec. 2006, but still not felted. Someday he'll love them. Someday.

Boyfriend M writing in from the Dordogne here. The mitts are indeed awesome. Also, Maryse: where do your grandparents live? Our dig house is in Carsac-Aillac, and our current site is between Campagne and Le Bugue, right near Les Eyzies. Sarlat is our usual destination for laundry, a bar, or just getting out of lil' ol' Carsac.
